Justine Browning is a Bronx-born filmmaker and journalist. She previously served as an editor at Entertainment Weekly and has contributed to outlets, such as USA Today and PBS. She has taught at Penn State, The Colin Powell School of Public Policy, John Jay College of Criminal Justice, Fordham University, and St. John’s University on the subjects of media, literature, human rights, international relations, and writing.
She earned her M.Phil from Fordham University in English and her M.A. in International Studies with a concentration in Mass Violence and Women's Studies from the Graduate Center. She received her B.S. in Media and Global Affairs from NYU, which led her to study media systems throughout the world. She has lived in Argentina, Italy, The Czech Republic, and New Orleans - and has visited over 55 countries. In her spare time, she enjoys taking dance classes and writing female-driven screenplays/novels with a social justice theme.
She recently hosted the talk "Reel Rebellion: Cinematic Justice in the #MeToo Era" at Penn State and was a speaker at the Critical Perspectives in Human Rights conference, where she discussed literature as a method of memorialization in the wake of mass violence.
She is a proud member of Amnesty International and Women for Women International.
